Welcome To Third Street

For more than 124 years, Third Street Music School Settlement has welcomed thousands of people of all ages to experience the joy and benefits of learning music and dance. Founded in 1894 with the mission to provide quality arts education to immigrants on the Lower East Side during the Settlement Movement, Third Street is the nation's longest-running community music school.

Education for everyone, regardless of age or ability to play or pay.

From toddlers to teens to adults — we provide a nurturing environment for students to grow as musicians and as individuals while our tuition assistance programs ensure that there are no financial barriers for our aspiring artists.

Whether you're interested in playing an instrument, singing, dancing, or composing, you can expand your musical horizon with us by learning about different styles and genres. Everyone has a place here at Third Street.

A wide selection of individual instruction and classes and ensembles

Offering lessons in more than 25 instruments and voice, as well as a variety of dance classes, our programs are designed to build skills, nurture talent, and prepare students for lifelong learning. Supplemental classes in repertoire, theory, composition, and ensembles enhance students' practice, while Master Classes and performance opportunities build students' confidence and competencies.

Financial Aid & Assistance for over 60% of our students

Third Street has a robust tuition assistance program, in fact, three out of four students receive financial aid, so don't let tuition be a barrier to your artistic journey.

Join a band or be a solo artist; dust off an old instrument or pick up a new one! It's never too late or too early to begin your musical journey.
