Our longtime faculty and chair of the Piano Department, Joan Forsyth, will be performing an array of works relating to the lullaby. The Lullaby has taken shape across many cultures and dates back to ancient times as a way to cultivate language and build emotional development, and also to help babies sleep!
This evening’s program cycles through some traditional forms, like Lowell Liebermann’s Lullaby for Two Pianos, Op. 76, as well as a variety of Nocturnes from the 18th and 19th centuries, a Nocturne by Irish composer John Field and two Nocturnes by Chopin . We will end the program with a piece for amplified piano by American 20th century composer George Crumb, Eine Kleine Mitternachtmusik – “A Little Midnight music”
