This eight-day workshop is designed for students who wish to advance their skills in chamber music as well as for those completely new to playing in a small ensemble, while enjoying summertime camaraderie. Students rehearse and perform side by side with their peers and coaches, and are carefully placed in groups and assigned repertoire based on skill level and age. Each group receives two hours of coaching per day, as well as supervised practice. Master classes, led by faculty and visiting artists, provide in-depth feedback that ranges from musicianship skills to performance interpretation. Classes include a daily workshop on movement and/or dancing, theater games, improvisation and other supplemental activities. Groups prepare for a public performance as a part of Third Street's well-established outdoor summer concert series and participate in a final concert in the school's Anna-Maria Kellen Concert Hall. Quality instruction and the opportunity for intensive learning are balanced with recreational activities, field trips and concert-going, which are all designed to deepen the friendships and musical experience that make up the thriving Third Street community.
