Third Street Music School Settlement's Chamber Music program encompasses elementary, intermediate and senior level wind, brass, string, and piano students. In Saturday afternoon recitals devoted to chamber music, audiences enjoy standard works by composers such as Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, Dvorak and Fauré. In addition, students perform pieces that were specifically written for them by faculty composer Nicholas Scarim. Past programs also included works by C.P.E. Bach, Weber, Barber, Turina, Clara Schumann and Frank Bridge.

Students interested in participating in the Chamber Music program should sign up with the Director of the Program. Guidelines for participation are available in the Registration Office. Returning students must audition in June, and may participate in one chamber music ensemble at no charge. Tuition will be charged for those taking more than one ensemble. Participation in an additional ensemble must have the permission of the Associate Director. There are many performance opportunities for all groups. Chamber music activities in past years have included competitions, benefit concerts and festivals with other schools. Each ensemble receives one hour of coaching per week and members are encouraged to arrange additional practice sessions on their own.

Pamela Frank, Gilbert Kalish, Bruce Adolphe, Joseph Kalichstein, Jaime Laredo, Fred Sherry, David Soyer, Arnold Steinhardt, Michael Tree and Peter Wiley are a few of the many well-known artist teachers who have conducted master classes or played with our chamber music students.

There is no charge for the first chamber music ensemble for students enrolled in individual lessons at Third Street Music School Settlement. The following tuition fees are for students who study individually outside of Third Street.
