| Music-making bridges generations as well as cultures. Third Street Music School Settlement is the ideal place to explore music at all levels of advancement. All departments welcome adult students from beginning though professional. Third Street Music School Settlement on occasion offers special workshops and seminars to professionals and music educators. Adult students are encouraged to participate in informal workshops and recitals, provided at no charge to those enrolled in individual lessons. Individual Instrumental and Individual Voice Instruction individual lessons are available for all levels of advancement. Weekly lessons are 30, 45, or 60 minutes in length. Individual voice instruction also includes weekly accompanist/coaching sessions. Monthly adult performance workshops for individual lesson students are included at no additional charge. These informal occasions provide opportunities both for performance and for social interaction. Students at all levels of advancement are encouraged to participate.

Studio Master Classes Students meet to perform new works or to present works-in-progress in an informal setting. Class discussions pertaining to musical issues are encouraged as students learn how to listen thoughtfully and share constructive comments. The instructor is present at every class, guiding the discussion and offering feedback. Six (6) Wednesdays or six (6) Fridays throughout the year. Group Instrumental and Group Voice Instruction Those interested in taking group lessons should register early so they can be matched with other interested students. Each class will be limited to four students. Students taking group lessons pay reduced tuition for the recommended theory and performance ensemble classes.
Between the Notes: Fundamentals of Music for Adults What makes a piece of music work? Find out -- by singing and listening -- how melody, harmony, rhythm and dynamics combine to create musical form and emotional meaning. The interests and priorities of the participants will, in part, shape the curriculum of the course.
Adult Chamber Music The Adult Chamber Music program offers performance opportunities for adult students in traditional and non-traditional chamber music ensembles. The fee includes one 90-minute session per week (45 minutes with a chamber music coach and 45 minutes of rehearsal).
New Horizons Band The New Horizons Band gives older adults with little or no musical experience the opportunity to play band music with others. The band has meets two days a week, with a sectional and a full band rehearsal on each day. It will perform at the end of each ten-week session. Instruments include flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and trombone. Tuition for 10 weeks (20 days) $FREE
The Feldenkrais Method Awareness Through Movement® classes address the movement aspect of physical activities like instrument playing, computer work, or child-care activities. Classes focus on the prevention of repetitive stress injury, addressing posture, fine motor coordination, and efficient self-use to help students become aware of their habitual ways of moving. Students of all ages, even if they have not exercised for years, rid themselves of stiffness and pain, and enjoy new, high-quality performance and a general sense of well-being.
Group instrumental and group voice instruction is offered for beginners and advanced beginners. Group classes include Group Cello, Group Violin, Adult Flute Ensemble, Between the Notes, Feldenkrais Method and Adult Chamber Music.
Adults register for the full 32-week school year and may choose to make payments in 8-week segments. back to top |
